Ever wondered, how to get your young champs into Photography? The first thing that comes to mind is the Camera and its complex operations. Teaching these to super young ones is not easy and not practical for sure. But that’s where most of us go wrong. Like adults, who are more focused on “How?”, young ones should only be asked to concentrate on “Why?”. Let me simplify, Photography for Kids/ young minds should not be about “How to use a Camera to take a Picture?” but rather they only should be asked to learn “Why to take a picture?” Photography should be less about technology and more about the “Art of Seeing”, in the beginning. Makes sense? Read on this blog on Photography/ Cameras for Kids.

Art of Seeing – Photography/ Cameras for Kids
In photography, this translates to the artistic part of the process. Instead of worrying about complex Camera controls, emphasis is given on “What’s in the frame?”. Composition takes precedence over Camera Settings, Subject over fancy Gears and Available light in the scene over Artificial Light like Off-Camera Flash. Though, it may sound simple, but is it really that simple? To be honest, yes, it is that simple. Before we proceed further, let’s talk about Cameras that are best suited for kids and which lets them focus more on the artistic side of Photography, without worrying much on the Complex controls on the Camera body.
Cameras for Kids
One thing to remember, not one size fits all. So, let’s divide the suggestions based on the age group.
Below 12 Years
Though, this is such a young age, but is a perfect fit for the topic. At this age, the goal should be to introduce them to a Camera which lets them see the results immediately and understand what looks good and what doesn’t. One can go with Instax Cameras for such young photographers. Instead of getting into a mind frame of click-click-click, as if it doesn’t matter, the Instax Camera lets you slowdown in this fast-paced world. Makes you think twice before you click and that’s such an important trait of a good, disciplined Photographer, which is one of the toughest traits to master. That’s the reason you see many with Camera, but hardly few who can be called as Photographers. Instax cameras are definitely fun, watching the photo getting printed and that feeling when you get to reveal the print slowly while its printing, is totally worth it.
Here are a few that can be considered for this age group:
Kodak Mini Shot 3
Kodak Mini Shot 3 Camera is a polaroid Camera that has the capability of Printing the results instantly. The photo prints are laminated which adds extra layer of protection from fingerprints and water. It also boasts a tiny LCD screen to review the Photos before printing.

Fujifilm Instax Mini 12

In the given budget, it’s a decent choice, if not the best. Weighs about 300 gm, requires 2x AA batteries and comes in multiple color options. Though, no LCD screen, but for this age group, simple and not too complex control is what you need. Worth a memory.
Instax-Wide 300 Instant Camera by Fujifilm
Now this is a value for bucks, as the print is bigger and better quality compared to the earlier ones. But is a little bulky, but definitely not something which can’t be managed. Weighs about 600 gm and requires 4 AA batteries. Good camera for Travels. That instant gratification of getting a beautiful scene printed right at the spot is something that can add a lifelong memory for kids and wake up the little traveler in them.

Instax-Mini LiPlay Hybrid Instant Camera by Fujifilm
Now this is a cool camera which not only allows one to print but also review and retain photos in it’s in-built memory. Option to add a memory card upto 256 GB is a handy option for the young travelers. Definitely value for money.

These Camera can be a perfect Birthday/ Christmas gift for amplifying the creativity in them.
Age group above 12 Years –
Now kids in this age group can be trusted with more powerful gears, which can, not only serve the purpose of learning but also work as a family camera. Get a camera which allows them to use not only when travelling but also allows them to get close to nature. Training the young minds to appreciate nature is the need of the hour. They will only become more and more humble and a better human. Here is a list of Camera Recommendations for them:
Nikon Coolpix P1000
Now this is a beast of a Camera, priced somewhere about Rs. 77000/- is a brilliant camera choice. I have seen many travelers and bloggers using this as a second camera. Perfect for Wildlife and Bird Photography.

Specs: 125x Super Optical Zoom, 16 MP Backside Illuminated CMOS Sensor, 4K Ultra HD Video Recording makes it complete in all aspects. This is one of the best cameras for starting out in the bird photography world.
Nikon Coolpix P950
Now, this one the younger sibling of P950, is still a worthy option in a little lower price bracket. At a slightly lower Zoom range i.e. 83X packs amazing specs in this body. Definitely worth considering at the given price.

Specs: 83x Super Optical Zoom, 16 MP Backside Illuminated CMOS Sensor and 4K Ultra HD Video Recording.
Usage: Nature Photography (Wildlfe, Bird Photography), Daily and Travel
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300K
12.1 Megapixel, 1/2.3-inches Sensor, 4K Video, Splash & Dustproof Body, Leica DC Lens, Optical, 24X F2.8 Zoom is something that makes this body very powerful. Good for lowlight, given it’s F2.8 capability. 24X is a decent zoom which is equivalent of 600 mm on a Full Frame sensor.

Usage: Nature Photography (Wildlfe, Bird Photography), Daily and Travel
Kodak AZ401RD Point & Shoot Digital Camera
Now this can be a perfect choice in a budget, which does more than it says. With amazingly powerful specs and priced at this range is a win-win situation.

Now these are some brilliant options to choose from.
