How to reach Kumbh mela 2025?
Prayagraj, the sacred site of the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati, the Triveni Sangam, is the host for the Kumbh Mela 2025. To reach Prayagraj, depending on your place of origin Flights, Trains and Buses are available.
Flight option to Prayagraj – IXD
There are direct flights to Prayagraj (IXD – Allahabad Airport) from major cities of India, like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, etc. One can even consider other nearby airports to Prayagraj. Though, recommended would be to take a direct flight to Prayagraj, if possible. But in case, you are out of luck in booking a flight ticket directly to Prayagraj, you can consider below two options:
- Varanasi – 112 km by road from Prayagraj, offers good connectivity to Prayagraj – Direct Cab, Buses, Trains and even flights are possible.
- Lucknow – About 200 km from Prayagraj – Direct Cab, Buses, Trains and even flights are possible.

Trains to Prayagraj
Frequent direct trains are available from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Varanasi, etc.
Please note, as per latest news pouring in, Railway stations are jam packed, so please plan accordingly. Specially, if you are a foreigner, try and avoid trains, use only cabs/ taxis, at least on the dates on or nearby to shahi snana / Royal bath to avoid getting stuck in stampede like gatherings. One option would be to consider traveling by train to nearby cities like Varanasi or Lucknow and then taking a cab from there to Prayagraj.
By Road to Prayagraj
Either you are driving to Prayagraj or taking a bus or cab or taxi to Prayagraj, be mindful of the in the increase in crowd and traffic on the maha snana dates.
Direct bus services from nearby cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, Kanpur, Lucknow, etc. are available. One can book through online trusted platforms like makemytrip.com or Goibibo.com or redbus.in etc.
Cab/ Taxi services are also available from nearby cities like Delhi, Varanasi, Kanpur, Lucknow, etc.
Travelling by Own Car: Expect Road closures, traffic restrictions, Vehicle restriction once you enter Prayagraj. Parking space may not be available near kumbh mela, and won’t be practical to use own vehicles to reach mela. You can use your car to reach Prayaraj, but use local public transport for a better tension free experience.

- One may have to walk 8 to 10 km to reach the mela, so pack light.
- Poor visibility due to heavy fog can cause flight delays or even cancellations so book flights with flexi options, if possible.
